Ultrasound, electricity needed in Chad

The Luke Society’s summer fundraising project is to raise money for Dr. Frederic Djongali Berniba who is in need of an ultrasound machine and would like to connect his satellite clinic in the community of Belaba to the electrical grid.

MOUNDOU, CHAD―For the past 12 years, Dr. Frederic Djongali Berniba has been tenacious in following God’s call to reach the underserved in rural Chad.

Clinique El Jire-Rapha, which means “Jehovah provides,” was birthed in 2012 in Moundou, Chad. When

Dr. Frederic had difficulty finding well-trained nurses to work in his clinic, he established a nursing school to train nurses and community health workers. There are 260 students enrolled in this three-year certified program, and 80 percent are Christians!

Dr. Frederic recognizes the people he serves need Jesus. Every morning he begins the day by reading

Scripture and having a time of prayer with staff members and patients. It is a practice that is well received by his patients, and many of them have received the gift of eternal life in Christ through this essential component of his ministry.

His training as a surgeon also enabled Dr. Frederic to see the urgent need for quality surgical and mater

nity services. He again stepped forward in faith and developed a surgical center and a maternal health center on his campus. He performs 120-150 surgeries annually along with 120-150 deliveries per year.

Two years ago, he expanded the impact of his ministry by opening a satellite clinic in Belaba, a community where many of his patients live.

At present, Dr. Frederic is in need of a new ultrasound machine. This need was not recognized until Dr. Frederic was directly asked if he had any unique medical needs for his ministry. We learned that he has been functioning without an ultrasound for the past four years — and he never complained or brought this to the attention of the Luke Society. An ultrasound machine is vitally important to provide quality surgical and maternal care. He would also like to connect the Belaba clinic to the electrical grid.

These needs can be provided to Clinique El Jire-Rapha if we can raise $23,000. Kindly join us in making Dr. Frederic’s ministry even more effective for God’s glory.
