Challenges accompany transitions

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” ― Prov. 16:9

Reflecting on the past year while anticipating what lies ahead comes naturally to us as we step into a new year. We tend to celebrate what went well and resolve to take a different approach for things that didn’t go as planned. But in all of it, we are reminded that only with God’s guidance and blessings will any of our plans succeed.

Many of our Luke Society ministries are facing issues more substantial than a new year’s review. After decades of faithfully following God’s call, several ministry directors are facing the challenge of transition. They are wrestling with questions such as: “Will this ministry continue to follow the vision God put on my heart when I started this work?” “Who have I equipped to move this ministry forward in the years ahead?” “What are God’s plans for me as I step aside?”

Dr. Yeny Agila de Pinos is one director who needs prayers in this process. She has led a highly effective ministry of Christ-centered hope to thousands of children at risk, women and elderly residents in Quinindé, Ecuador since 2002. But with the passage of time and a husband with escalating health problems, a transition to new leadership is essential.

Our Luke Society directors covet your prayers as they envision how to manage the challenges of transition. Each director is uniquely gifted, and finding new leaders with compatible skills who are willing to work in difficult areas of the world is a sizeable task. Each director also recognizes that the ministry they have established is not theirs, but God’s. They move forward in faith, confident that God will continue to provide what is needed to accomplish His restorative purposes in this sin-broken world — all to His glory.
