Rehab ministry keeps focus on hope

RIVNE, UKRAINE―It is not difficult to imagine the war in Ukraine has led many people to turn to alcohol and drugs to alleviate the stress and pain they have been feeling the past several years. The Luke Society ministry in Rivne, Ukraine, has been addressing these issues head-on. This ministry is unique within the Luke Society as Rev. Vitaly Korsunsky directs The Right Way, an alcohol and drug treatment center.

An interesting phenomenon has been occurring as the numbers of patients in the treatment center are down over the past few years. Not only have many people fled the country, lowering the population, but others are experiencing deep financial challenges, which inhibit patients from paying for treatment, or even getting transportation to the center.

Korsunsky anticipates a sharp increase in patients requesting treatment once the war comes to an end. However, in the meantime, it’s challenging with a low patient volume. These challenges lead to numerous prayer requests:

Pray for peace to return to Ukraine; pray for physical and spiritual healing for the patients currently receiving help in the treatment center; pray for future patients to find the means to attend treatment and for past patients to follow their plan and stay clean and sober; pray for the rebuilding of infrastructure in Rivne as it has received damage from bombings.

Korsunsky and his staff hope for a better future. He wrote in a recent correspondence that they were clinging to verses like Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
