Support for Niger vehicle
Nurse Annie Mabrouck Mansour tends to a patient in her clinic in Tekanassar late last year. A new vehicle would release some of the transportation stress she has in finding ways to travel between Tekanassar and the nearest large city, Agadez.
Nana Mabrouck Mansour, or “Annie,” is a Luke Society nurse who grew up in Agadez, a city in central Niger, on the edge of the Sahara Desert. Her family practiced a combination of Islam and Animism.
From an early age, she was aware of the spiritual world around her. She had nightmares which she describes as horrific visions from a dark world.
However, as an adolescent she became more and more attracted to Jesus. She read stories about Jesus secretly. She had visions of Jesus in dreams. Eventually she surrendered and gave her life completely to him.
Tekanassar is a town a day’s drive north of Agadez. It is a remote, isolated area home to Bedouin tribes that are predominantly Muslim. Annie started working in this area about two years ago. She was on the way to another village and stopped in Tekanassar. She says, “I saw Jesus weeping over this village. I knew this is where God wanted me to be.”
She moved there without any additional support even before the Luke Society began a partnership with her. She began seeing patients on her own in an abandoned clinic building. And, because there was no other health care available in this community, she met an immediate need.
It is not easy to get to Tekanassar from Agadez. Transportation is difficult. Annie sometimes has to wait days for a ride. Often, the only option she has is on the back of a crowded truck already loaded with other supplies. Recently, she started experiencing back pain, which makes travel even more challenging.
Providing a vehicle for Annie will make these trips more manageable and her ministry more efficient. She would also have transportation to visit villages in surrounding areas to have an even greater impact. Our goal is to raise $25,000 to help her with this. Thank you for partnering with us in such important work. Annie is shining God’s light in a very dark place. Your support helps make this possible.
