Growing persecution felt everywhere

Christians join for worship in a church near Naryn, Kyrgyzstan, where persecution has become a problem.

Would you tell someone about Jesus if it meant possible imprisonment, persecution or even death?

Spreading the Gospel message at your own peril can seem like something that only happens in history books. However, a number of Luke Society ministry directors share the Good News in locations where it is not even safe to be named.

Our ministry director from Egypt once stated, “The context the Lord has sent us is closed and very dangerous. It is not suitable to mention my name nor place of ministry openly. We will need to practice a humbling confidentiality.”

The Middle East, China and Laos are a few areas where danger is always present for Christians. Add to this increased scrutiny in Kyrgyzstan, prison sentences for evangelism in Nepal and India, and Jihadist attacks in Mali.

It is exciting to think of the Gospel spreading through these faithful servants. It is also scary to imagine what this might cost some of these believers.

In talking about the signs of the end of the age in Luke 21:12, Jesus states, “But before all this, they will lay hands on you and persecute you.”

Remember these are dear ministry directors who are working to bring hope and healing to hurting people. Pray they might have wisdom to know when to speak and when to be silent. Pray their efforts bear fruit which leads to the salvation of many.
