LA directors to meet in Guatemala

Lake Atitlán will serve as the backdrop for the Seventh Latin American Regional Conference in Panajachel, Guatemala, next week.

PANAJACHEL, GUATEMALA—Luke Society directors from throughout Latin America will convene in Guatemala next week for the Seventh Latin America Regional Conference.

Regional conferences in Latin America are held once every six years. The last meeting was in the Dominican Republic in 2016. Regional conferences are also held in Africa and Eurasia every six years, each in two-year intervals.

Regional conferences supplanted the international conference model, which was discontinued in 2010.

The majority of the Latin American conference will take place in the city of Panajachel, on the shores of beautiful Lake Atitlán, May 16-20.

Twenty-eight individuals are participating, representing active ministries, alumni ministries and central office staff.

“God has allowed me to participate and organize — totally or partially — the last four regional conferences of Latin America in my role as regional coordinator during the last 15 years,” said Dr. Jose Luis Guerrero of Mexico. “Each one has been an unforgettable experience since it is a unique space in which we can see gathered — in the same place and time — all the directors of Latin American ministries with their wives, as well as key members of the staffs and the Boards of Directors, sharing experiences and knowledge and learning together how to impact our world, how to extend the Kingdom of God in Latin America, teaching, preaching and healing impoverished communities many times abandoned by their governments. It is a unique opportunity to know the heart of the Luke Society from the heart of many servants of God.”

The theme chosen for the conference is “New Challenges, Eternal Resources.” It’s based on the Scriptural text from 2 Tim. 4:5, which reads: “But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.”

The conference features several speakers who will discuss difficult topics in today’s world such as abortion, sexual identity and COVID-19. Each Luke Society ministry will have the opportunity to give an update on their work in the Lord’s kingdom.

The central location of Panajachel also provides the unique opportunity to visit two Luke Society ministry sites: Asociacion Vida in Patzun and AMI San Lucas in San Juan.

Keep an eye on the Luke Society Facebook page next week for updates and photos from the conference.
