Images display world’s need
MADAOUA, NIGER—Every once in a while at the Luke Society (maybe a little too often) we receive a medical picture from one of our ministry directors that is slightly grotesque—open wounds being stitched closed or burn victims receiving grafts. Pictures like this make me sad as I think of people around the world suffering with these ailments.
However, there was one picture recently that was more arresting than usual. Our ministry director in Niger, Africa was treating a teenage boy who had a huge tumor growing on the front of his face. In the picture, the young man was laying down, holding the ball which had grown to be almost the size of his head—stretching his skin and blocking his eyes.
These difficult pictures are a reminder of the fallen world in which we live. I can’t imagine the life of great suffering this boy has experienced. Pictures like this make me want this boy to experience a physical healing that will probably never take place on this earth.
Even more than this, these pictures make me hope that this boy is introduced to the Gospel. I want him to know Jesus and to someday walk with our Lord without this earthly burden. Imagine how happy he would be if he could exchange stories of suffering with our Savior.
Please pray for the many people suffering with challenging medical situations around the world. Pray for the good work of the Luke Society ministry directors, like Assoumane Mahamadou in Niger. Pray for excellence in medical work, and also for excellence in Spiritual work within the Luke Society.
