January GAP newsletter
By Nathan Stob
Our goal in writing the GAP newsletter each month is to help you, our faithful prayer partners, focus on particular requests from Luke Society ministry directors. This month we would like to say thank you on behalf of all of the ministry directors.
As you know, 2020 was a particularly challenging year around the world. In addition to running a medical clinic, ministry directors faced additional trials. COVID-19 challenged many Luke Society clinics and also devastated world economies. There were multiple hurricanes which hit ministries in Central America (Guatemala, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Haiti). Government corruption left people in poverty, straining their ability to pay for medical services (Uganda, DR Congo). Stability was pressured by war (Ukraine). Growing suspicion of Christianity resulted in persecution (Kyrgyzstan, Laos, China, Egypt, Nepal). Rebel groups threatened ministries as they attack Christian groups (Mali, Niger, Indonesia). There have been increased kidnappings (Haiti, Cameroon).
These challenges are real, yet, somehow God provides avenues for Luke Society ministry directors to continue touching lives. Thank you for your prayers, which open doors and allow ministry directors to persevere in the face of adversity.
Please continue to pray to the same God who healed Jairus’ daughter (Mark 5:41). Call upon the heavenly hosts, which were revealed to Elisha’s servant (2 Kings 6:17). Ask the Holy Spirit to fall on all who hear the word of truth (Acts 10:44). You truly are a partner to the work in each ministry — thank you!
If you know of someone else who would be interested in receiving updates and praying, have them e-mail the Luke Society office at office@lukesociety.org.
