Luke Society Lugansk

Sometimes circumstances in life require you to pivot. What happened to the medical team in Lugansk may not have made sense in the moment, but it sure does now.

War broke out in Lugansk just as three doctors were ready to open a clinic in 2013. They lost their place to see patients, but not their will to serve them.

The mission turned into a mobile ministry where the team travels to small towns throughout the region, working directly with Christian churches to see patients with medical needs.

“We need to reach out to different churches, explain our capabilities and the importance of such ministries for the local church,” said director Alexender Shevchenko.

The ministry conducts visits about twice a month. When not on the road, the doctors work in municipal hospitals, using them as evangelistic mission fields. Discipleship and mentoring are important parts of the ministry. Over time they have invited new believing medical students to join the team and have experienced growth as a team.

About the ministry:

Name: Luke Society Lugansk

Location: Lugansk

Director: Dr. Alexander Shevchenko

Partnership: 2014-present

Staff: 8

Our mission:

“Our mission is to bring the Good News to every person and opportunity, and to reveal that God loves everybody and wishes to save them. Through conscientious medical care as physicians, we have the possibility to touch the intimate spheres of a person and show the true cause of the disease of sin. And then we offer a way out — reconciliation with God through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Why I love being a director:

“As a ministry director, I love when new volunteers join the ministry; when I have the possibility to introduce any patient to Jesus; and when I see the fruits of our ministry.”
