Churches showing endurance

Dr. Frederic Djongali has prayer and Bible study every morning for staff members and patients in his Chad clinic. Christians have recently been a target of violence in the African country of Chad.

MOUNDOU CHAD—It is fairly safe to say that most of us do not think we have put ourselves in harm’s way while attending church services each Sunday. But in many parts of the world, this is an inescapable reality for followers of Jesus.

In June, our Luke Society partner in southern Chad, Dr. Frederic Djongali, sent us this sobering message: “Good morning. It is with joy that I share with you our activity reports for the month of May. We are doing well despite the insecurity in our area. Several churches burnt down, 12 pastors killed, children and women killed. We pray for this.”

Unfortunately, stories like this do not make world or even national news. Followers of Jesus in countries around the world are experiencing the types of rejection that Jesus predicted. We hear firsthand evidence from our Luke Society directors that many are being unjustly imprisoned, others lose their homes, and far too many lose their lives.

Please join Dr. Frederic in praying for the persecuted church. In spite of the danger, these fearless pastors and believers follow the Biblical advice given to us in James 1:12: “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”

Believers worldwide are standing firm amid fiery trials, confident that an eternal crown of life awaits all who endure.
