Challenged by persecution, isolation

Dr. Issaka Poudiougo’s call to the northern reaches of Mali has brought about physical and spiritual change in the region. (File photo)

KANIAKA, MALI—There are times when it can be intimidating to share our faith with others. Even more intimidating would be spreading the truth of the Gospel to people groups who are hostile towards these words. This is the case in Kaniaka, Mali, where Dr. Issaka Poudiougo runs a medical clinic.

The clinic is very near the border from the predominantly Muslim country of Mauritania, which is notoriously closed to the Gospel. Yet, people come to Dr. Poudiougo’s medical clinic to receive the excellent care he provides.

He attentively looks after patients medically, and then tenderly shares the Good News of Jesus with them. And he is making a difference in many lives from the Fulani, Sonike and Moorish tribes which he serves. This careful work takes a charming personality and wisdom in knowing when to speak and when to keep silent.

Dr. Issaka faces many personal obstacles to live in this harsh desert environment away from the support of other believers. Please pause today and pray for ongoing strength for this bold and kind-hearted servant. Pray for his family and growing medical practice. Pray for more Christian staff to be open to joining the medical office. Pray for the ongoing spread of the Gospel in this very under-reached area.
