A ministry’s maturity isn’t always quantified in the dollars and cents that make it sustainable. Often it’s measured in the visible ways a community has been transformed.

When Drs. Francisco Moraga and Reyna Sanchez began Fundación San Lucas in 2001, their vision was to provide community health education while empowering their fellow countrymen to impact both their immediate and long-term health. Their focus became a handful of villages around Jinotepe.

While the needs in each village differ, many of the health issues center on securing and maintaining healthy food and water supplies. Residents are also educated in efficient farming practices.

Besides promoting physical health, Fundación San Lucas has empowered Nicaraguans to take ownership in their health. Moraga and Sanchez serve as resources, helping residents understand why health transformation is important for the future generations.

Family practice physicians Dr. Francisco Moraga and Dr. Reyna Sanchez have dedicated their lives to ministry. The husband-wife team is a dynamic duo, passionate about serving the Lord in the remote villages of Nicaragua. Their commitment to bringing holistic transformation in the country is evident through the many ways communities have improved their health and lifestyles under the couple’s guidance. The knowledge of community health education has benefited not only the Jinotepe region, but has provided a health education model for other Luke Society ministries.
