It is with deep sadness and shock that we share with you the unexpected passing of Luke Society ministry director Dr. Ousmane Soh.

Dr. Soh had been the director of the ministry in Dahra, Senegal, since 2004. He was 59.

The following is a statement from Luke Society Executive Director Dr. Wrede Vogel

"'Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me will have life, even if they die.'" John 11:25

"It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that Dr. Ousmane Soh was taken from his earthly home. He collapsed while exercising near his home in Dahra, Senegal.  Attempts to revive him at the local hospital were unsuccessful.

For over 15 years Ousmane has been a faithful partner in ministry. He loved to tell the story of Jesus and His love! For him, that story was told in the wonderful testimony of how God lead him from darkness into the light of faith in Jesus through friends and the Jesus Film while he was in medical training in Libya. He then was led back to Senegal to share that faith through his medical ministry, particularly to his people, the Fulanis of West Africa. Ousmane’s testimony has reached its fulfillment as he has entered into eternal presence of our Lord and Savior.

However, this is a terrible blow to the small Christian community in Senegal. Please join us in prayer for those believers who have lost a very strategic leader. Pray for God’s comfort and wisdom. Pray for God’s protection from despair. God does have a plan, and His plan is perfect. Pray that He leads and reveals even through this tragedy."

The Luke Society received notice on Thursday evening through regional coordinator Dr. John Oduro-Boateng that Soh was in critical condition. A second e-mail a short time later confirmed Soh's death through text messages with staff members at Soh's clinic.

Ousmane was a servant for in Christ a difficult area where almost all of the population is Muslim. He was a beacon of Christ's light and was instrumental in bringing many into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.

Dr. Soh was not married, but he had a close family within the Luke Society, including a PMT who loved him dearly. We are all hurting.

We urge you to keep the Luke Society family in your prayers during this time of grief. Pray for the ministry he leaves behind as well as the Christian community in Dahra.
