Living a life of Prayer

By Dan Breen

When the Luke Society staff sends out the monthly GAP Newsletter, we don’t always know if it will be read or how it will be used. But occasionally we do get the privilege of hearing stories that warm our hearts.

That was the case when we heard about one of our GAP warriors named LaRoyce Hicks who lives near Santa Paula, Calif., about 65 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

Each Monday, Hicks and a group of women from her church meet to pray for the Luke Society. Last fall they worked through every prayer request on the Luke Society Day of Prayer and Fasting. It took them almost two months to cover each one.

“We do this each year,” Hicks said in a letter. “We appreciate ending by praying for you and all the staff and the board of directors.”

Luke Society Businesses Manager Rod Ledeboer and his wife, Julie, got to know Hicks when they lived in Cote d’Ivoire back in 1996 and have maintained a relationship over the years.

“We want to acknowledge these faithful prayer warriors and thank them for their participation in the Luke Society’s work around the world,” said Julie Ledeboer.

“It is the Lord’s work, so I’m confident it is all in His hands,” Hicks said.

We’d love to hear how you pray for the Luke Society. If you have time, drop us a note or e-mail us at office@lukesociety.org and tell us how you like to pray. Your prayers are an encouragement to us.
