Giving the gift of Christmas

By Dr. Erol Rene

Within a few days it will be Christmas. It is a reminder of the birth of our Savior and Lord Jesus who came on earth as a child to save mankind.

Christmas is also a time of union and exchanging of gifts. It is the time of the year that children love the most because they receive all kinds of gifts and toys from parents and family. It is a time of joy and happiness for many.

For most Haitian children there is no difference between the Christmas season and the rest of the year. Christmas for them does not mean anything because they will not receive love. If they see toys on TV and shop windows they will not receive them except in their dreams.

For five years, the Luke Society ministry of Cayes-Jacmel, located in the southeast Haiti, has taken on the mission of helping the children of the community to feel the love and joy during Christmas.

Each year, the team organizes a party for the children and gives them different gifts and toys.

Thanks to the ministry, these children have been able to experience what it is like to receive and touch a toy with their hands.
