'Everything to God in prayer'

By Deb Den Herder

What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

This song, written by Joseph Seriven, has taken on special meaning to me. Recently, my family went through a tragedy and we are going through a time of grieving. Some days seem dark, but then I get a call or a message from a friend to tell me they are praying for me. The light breaks through the darkness and I feel the love of the Father.

Each day our ministries around the world go through difficult situations – whether persecution, government corruption, violence, illness, lack of basic medical equipment and medications, shortage of funds, or loneliness. And there are times of joy and celebration – when a patient is healed physically, but more importantly when there is spiritually healing. Our heavenly Father is with them. And we pray for them.

Our annual Luke Society Day of Pray and Fasting is Tuesday, November 21. On that day the 42 Luke Society ministries, regional coordinators, board of directors, central office staff and prayer warriors lift up to our Heavenly Father each ministry’s prayer requests and thanksgivings.

If you would like to join us for a day of prayer, email me at deb@lukesociety.org and I will email you a copy of the prayer sheet. At the end of the day we will be able to sing,

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen!  (Thomas Ken)
