DAHRA, SENEGAL—Nearly 40 directors, staff, PMTs and personnel made history in Senegal last week at the Luke Society’s Third African Regional Conference in Dahra.

The gathering was the largest medical conference to ever hosted in Dahra, a city of about 30,000 in northern Senegal. It was also the largest Christian Medical Conference ever to take place in Senegal.

All 14 Luke Society Africa ministries in were represented at the conference.

The purpose of the conference was for attendees to feel the encouragement, fellowship and the presence of the Holy Spirit at work through the Luke Society.

“It’s a great time of encouragement; it’s a great time of fellowship; and it’s also a great time when the PMT and the Luke Society office members are here with us and we share together,” said Africa Regional Coordinator Dr. John Oduro-Boateng. “We have a common vision, a common core to serve our people.”

The theme verse for the 2019 African Regional Conference was from John 15:16: “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit — fruit that will last — and so that whatever you ask in my name, the Father will give you.”

Devotions for the week centered around the text. Ministry updates were also given by each director.

“This is a very unique opportunity for me. I am so blessed,” said Dr. Ousmane Soh, Luke Society ministry partner in Dahra, Senegal. “It’s been one of the happiest, most blessed weeks of my life. You can imagine how blessed I am to have all these people here; to have all these people coming to my workplace and seeing my ministry; see the people that God called me to serve; see the land God called me to bless. It’s been a tremendous blessing to me.”

The week concluded with a visit to Goreé Island off the western tip of Senegal. The island is infamous for the location where many African slaves were shipped out to the Americas. Participants also enjoyed a visit to the African Renaissance Monument, the tallest statue in Africa.
