April GAP newsletter

The Luke Society Staff has been in prayer and discussions regarding the unsettling situation we find ourselves in because of the Covid 19 pandemic. The risk of this infection has affected our lives in our homes and families, workplaces and churches. It has created a sense of uncertainty and fear.

We are getting reports from our directors relaying the impact of the virus, restrictions of operation of their clinics and the challenges of safely caring for their patients. We have been forced to cancel visits to our ministry partners. We do not know when we will be able to resume our visits.

But through this crisis we see clearly how God has prepared us “for such a time as this.” We believe we are uniquely prepared to continue serving the Lord through this pandemic. Our ministry is not dependent on travel or expatriates working in foreign lands. We have been called to partner with indigenous Christian health professionals with a passion and vision to serve their own people. We can continue to carry out our mission to come alongside our ministry partners as they follow their calling to minister to the physical and spiritual health of their neighbors. Because of God’s blessing of technology, we can continue to communicate with our partners all over the globe. We continue to share their prayer requests with our prayer partners. We may be separated for a time from seeing them face to face, but we are not separated from our bond in Christ and our love for them.

The pandemic is disrupting economic activity all over the world including the United States. We anticipate this may affect the ability of some of our Luke Society donors to provide the same level of support going forward. But we have had an especially good level of support the last couple of years. God has prepared us for this crisis. The financial condition of the Luke Society is strong. We anticipate no restriction in providing the financial support we budgeted and committed to our ministry partners this year. We do deeply appreciate the donations you provide which enable us to carry out our calling.

Above all, we rest in the knowledge that God loves us and that He is in control. We are comforted by His word from Philippians 4. Please join with the worldwide Luke Society family as we pray for His guidance, protection and wisdom seeking to serve Him in the midst of these challenges.
